Cap ferré

Located on the Basse Côte-Nord territory, about a 20-minute drive from Havre-Saint-Pierre. Take Route 138 toward Natashquan. At kilometre 1232, turn onto the dirt road and follow it for five kilometres, keeping right. The road ends in a cul-de-sac where a sign marks the start of the trail.

This trail is an exploration walk of about 2 km round trip along the shoreline, with rocks, cliffs, and waterfalls that flow directly into the St. Lawrence River — the main reason many people visit Cap ferré. With a keen eye, you’ll notice how much the landscape resembles the Mingan Archipelago, which makes sense geologically: Cap ferré formed during the same period and belongs to the same formation.
The area is also home to rare plant species, including the yellow lady’s slipper (flat-petaled variety). Even though the walk is short, it’s best not to squeeze this visit into an overly packed day — it’s the kind of place where you can easily spend hours. Picnic tables are available near the falls. Please take your waste with you, as there are no disposal facilities on site.
